Did You Know?

Because so much of the movie, Wall-E is presented without dialogue, director Andrew Stanton and his team spent a year watching silent films every day at lunch.

Also, WALL-E's voice was created by sound designer Ben Burtt, and even though he previously worked on every "Star Wars" films, there are more sound effects in "WALL-E" than in any other movie he's worked on.

Chronicles of Narnia part 3: Confirmed!

The third series of the Chronicles of Narnia : "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" is set to be released on the December 10, 2010.

It was initially to be released on May 1, 2009 (same as X-Men Origins: Wolverine) after being set-back by disputes of the two major studios: Walt Disney Picture and Walden Media. Walt Disney decided to drop the project. Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox came to the scene and took over from there.

That's great news! As I'm an avid reader of the Narnia Books and aside from that, i personally like both the films. It stays true to the books, and able to recapture the entire mood, background into the big-screen. It's well-done.

Well, Voyage of the Dawn Treader isn't exactly my favourite book of the series (my favourite one is 'The Horse and His Boy), but I'm really looking forward into more upcoming films of the series and the possibility of where the whole Narnia franchise could head in the future. It does certainly look bright.

Rotten Tomatoes verdicts 'Chun-Li' for 0% rating

This morning i checked http://www.rottentomatoes.com/ and saw the Street Fighter:Legend of Chun Li.

Bad News.

Rotten Tomatoes just rated and reviewed 'Legend of Chun-Li at a great 0% rating. And it been a long time since i last saw a 0% rating for a movie, yes, it's a rare bleed of movies to able to do so.

By the look of the poster, i already sensed something is wrong (the poster don't look street-fighter-like). And after some researches, found out that the director Andrzej Bartkowiak is helming the film. Now, that's awful. From Doom, Cradle 2 the Grave to Romeo must die, all are crappy movies.

So, i guess i gonna give this movie a pass, and probably only watch it when it is shown on the television. Well, i ought to go for Marley & Me instead. Now that should be a decent film, not a 0% rated film at least.

Well, if you seen Legend of Chun Li and think it is great; do share your thoughts and opinions here, i will be glad to hear it and even change my mind into watching it.

Samuel L. Jackson "Fury" ... back again!

Samuel L. Jackson will resprise his role as 'Nick Fury' again at Iron Man 2, which is prior to released on summer 2010.

Rejoice! Not only so, Jackson had also agreed and made a long-term agreement with Marvel Entertainment to play his role as Nick Fury in the other upcoming Marvel flicks. Expected films which are to be made are such as Captain America, Thor and the super-franchise of all, the Avengers.

Nick Fury character was introduced into the franchise when he first appeared in the final closing scene of Iron Man, after the credits. Fury had been an important and on-recurring character within many of Marvels' franchises.

I personally think it's a great and important decision that Marvel had made to sign-on Samuel L. Jackson into a long-term commitment. Clearly it shows that Marvel Entertainment have already set and planned for the future, so it's definite that Marvel won't screwed up, and will offer great entertainment value to all our favourite superheroes in the days to come. Marvel, keep up the good work, and bring forward 'The Avengers' which i just can't wait for!

'Bout Buttons on Best Picture

I missed my Original-Content write up last week, which i was having my vacation (phew, with dizziness & sickness) = read it here. Then came my psycho-wrecked internet connection, consistently disconnecting at the wrong time, unable me to update this blog as often as i could. So i miss out many things i could mention about the upcoming Oscar, which gonna be held tomorrow.

Great. I missed the fun talking about the Oscar. Anyways, since i gonna be putting up an Original Content today, here's my short take on the Academy Awards based on my thoughts and opinions.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons. I watched it and yes, it's a good show. I every way agree and respect what the Academy had saw the greatness of this flick; but not to the way that it is a film that deserve 13 nominations. But, one thing is clear; it does not deserve the several complaints as about 'how this film sucks' and does not belong to the 'Best Picture' category, or even any category.

To start off, here's my opinions on the commonly said, negative comments that many viewers of Benjamin Buttons expressed:
a) it is a snooze-fest b)too fictional/fake or c) it isn't good enough to be a 'Best Picture', other shows deserve better.

Snooze-fest: Please, you are watching a DRAMA film. If you are looking for nonstop adrenaline thrill, go for popcorn action flicks - transformer, diehard etc etc. And, trust me, Benjamin Buttons isn't "boring" unlike some other dramas i had seen. But if you think likewise about Benjamin Buttons, i suggest stop watching dramas and refrain from saying Benjamin Buttons doesn't deserve the Best Picture Award.

Fictional/Fake: I guess the case is that you wouldn't expecting what kind of film u are up to before watching Benjamin Buttons. First off, Benjamin Button is categorized under Science-Fiction. You should know what that means by then. And secondly, please do some research before watching a film, so you know what you are up to and could save you some money if you think you gonna dislike it.

Isn't Good enough: Well, try giving me a list of other films throughout the year, which had done nearly as detailed and crafty as Benjamin Buttons; besides the current nominees. Some i can think of is like Wall-E, The Wrestler? Besides that, Benjamin Buttons is in fact known as a superior best picture nominee that the rest; alongside Slumdog Millionaire.

Ahh, of course, there is the Dark Knight. Yes, i think many was expecting this and wasn't happy when it doesn't get nominated. In my opinion, Dark Knight is both overrated and overhyped, and all in all, it's still an action flick and there is many flaws in it (i won't bother mentioning them, this is a Benjamin Button article after all). Yes, flame me all you want; i tried to like Dark Knight as much as i could but couldn't. I rather take Wall-E as a Best Picture than this.

Okay, here's a point i like to add, which i think many have fail to see:
Benjamin Buttons is one film that could have done many, many wrongs; yet it does not. A tale of a person aging reversely? That itself; is too cheesy and otherworldly. Most directors would have made a disastrous film out of this. But yet, David Fincher had proven wrong and instead had crafted a masterful piece out of it.

The reason why Buttons is at its great height is because of the superb, clear direction from the director, David Fincher. This is what separate it from many of other films. Story flows really well, it is masterfully told and pace is perfect.

There's emotions throughout the film, the ups and downs of life of the main character and the love of his life, Daisy. Characters that are well developed, there's many elements that can be related, moral values to be learnt from the film; all are key elements of a good movie.

What would have became a failed-premise; had been done well and became the opposite? That's Benjamin Buttons. And yes, it's definitely Best-Picture Worthy. Here's my talk and stand against those who despise Buttons. But in conclusion - my support for Best Picture still goes to Slumdog Millionaire.

Catch up after the Oscar Fever. Till then and time for bed.

Vacation, Exhaustion, Fever and Back Again!

Hooray!

Back into my blog again, now could feel all my energies channelled back into writing All' Bout Films again. It been a while.

...and sorry guys, been days since I last updated anything here, last entry was on the 13th of this month. Suppose to put-up something about Valentine Day, was too busy with work, "Date", and yawnnnn... was too tired at the end of the day - lost all my oomph for a write-up, something about love, romance and stuff. Sleepy, tired, exhausted, all i can think was to sleep right at the moment.

Next 1 1/2 days, was on vacation - and yes, there's internet in the hotel! But again, i can't be spending my time in the hotel during a vacation isn't, that'll be so sad. So out i go, had my fun and was too tired and moody by the end of the day - Reason? Almost vomited after super-dizzy rides, not only one, 3 rides in fact; in the theme park. After that, shooting bowling pins, zombies, fictional army men. Exhaustion? Yes i was, Incredibly-exhausted.

Yesterday, you guessed it, i suffered from fever. Feeling dizzy throughout the day, which made me wondered whether my dizziness came from the rides which i suffered 2 days before. Can't be, isn't? Well, yeah, was dizzy AND tired; as lack of sleep from the vacation.

Today - feeling better. Not a single trance of dizziness; yet. Hope my fever don't take it toll later on the day again. Anyway so far so good, i'm back here at the moment.

4 days absent. Here's my entry of my return, and hope you enjoyed reading it! See you around. Be right back soon.

Review - Underworld: Rise of The Lycans

UNDERWORLD :RISE OF THE LYCANS (2009)

Directed by: Patrick Taotopoulos
Cast: Rhona Mitra, Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy
Release date
(Worldwide): 23rd January 2009
Runtime: 92 minutes
For more info: IMDB: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
My Rating:
6 out of 10. Better than Underworld: Evolution, but isn't that great either. A worthy add-on the series
Other Rating: Rotten Tomatoes: 31%, IMDB: 6.9/10 Yahoo Movies [User]: A-

Here are my thoughts and so-called-mini-reviews on the previous two titles of the Underworld Franchises, since today i'm giving my review on the latest entry to the series, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans :

I'm a fan of the original Underworld. Set in a gothic and dark atmosphere, it tells the tale of the lycans (werewolves) and vampires being mortal rivals for centuries, and their struggles between them. Werewolves & Vampires on a fight? Who wouldn't be interested on that?

And then came year 2006, came the sequel, Underworld: Evolution. It blew, big time. I walked out of the theatre, confused (the storyline!), felt underwhelmed, and wish that it had never existed.

3 years later, now that i had watched Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (RotL), so here i am giving my reviews. I will speak with a open-mind, not attempting to compare this to its previous films. All i can say, it is better than Underworld: Evolution. And at least that's a good thing.

First things first, RotL is an prequel to the original Underworld. It tells the story of the origins of the hatred between the Vampires and the Lycans, and eventually how Lucian rallies the werewolves to rise against Viktor, the vampire lord. So for those who haven't watch the first two Underworld, i think this film is actually pretty easy to catch up; the storyline is very straightforward and simple, no mindless flashbacks and such.

The best bit of this film are the characters. Characterisation are pretty much well-thought out in this film. Lucian and Viktor, who already had been well-developed enough on the first film; the actors Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen replay their memorable roles with sheer greatness. Sad to say, Selene, the main heroine who is played by Kate Beckinsale is not back here. Instead a new character is introduced, Sonja played by Rhona Mitra. Rhona Mitra may lack the charisma of Kate but never fails to deliver her role and she's an asset to the film. Her dialogue flows smoothly and her presence is felt. The other minor characters like Raze & Tannis does what they should, and provides substance to the overall storyline. Nevertheless, this film's main bits are still on Lucian and Viktor, do watch them unfold and be impressed.

Setting-wise, it shares the same Gothic-dark look with its predecessors, with a change of setting to the Medieval. Yes, there is a castle, which is Viktor's Castle and some scenes set on the forest. The set production is nothing really impressive, as you have seen better - Lords of the Rings, even Harry Potter and such, but at least RotL nevers fall short. Average, is the word.

Action-packed throughout the show; mixed with a little romance and some political talks between the vampires, yeah, Underworld: RotL is pretty much exciting. Armed with fight-scenes between vamps and wolfs, and the epic-like battle when the Lycans try to invade Viktor's castle. But here again, it is just done in an average standard, you have seen better. The supposing end-battle which suppose to be epic, ended up looking as though the film suffered from the lack of the budget, as it is too short and wasn't conclusive enough.

The weakest point of this film is the length. Just 92 minutes, come on. By the end of it, I was expecting more. Yes, too bad thoughout the show, it is just filled with average settings and average fight scenes (and these are really what Underworld all about). If b0th had been done better, yeah, i would have love this film. Another point to point out is there is pretty much too many scenes with unnecessary gore and violence, it make RotL looks like a B-grade horror.

Well, to conclude all i can say is, this isn't too good, and isn't terribly bad. Made by 1st-time director debut by Patrick Tatopoulos, so yeah i forgive you, Patrick. At least the mood of the first two films is recaptured. Origins of several characters are explained here. Not a wasted effort to attempt to tell the history to the Underworld Franchise, but can definitely be better.

To my fellow readers, to truly enjoy this flick, just expect nothing but know that this is an ordinary-popcorn action flick; nothing truly special. Be ready to know it is indeed very short, and you will want more. All in all, Underworld is all about vampires and lycans tearing each other up on the big screen. Enjoy that. And again in a few years time. Underworld: 4 had recently been announced to be in production pretty soon. So count me in, i will be back in the ride once again.

My Rating: 6/10
+ Memorable Characters, good characterisation
+ Action-packed; "Werewolves & Vampires on a fight? Who wouldn't be interested on that?"
+ Mood and setting from the 1st two flick is recaptured
+ Story is easy to follow, good for those who are new to the franchise
- Too short, leave the viewer wanting more, really really more.
- Unnecessary gore and violence
- Average, ordinary flick. Nothing truly special.

If you enjoy this film, i recommend you also watch: Van Helsing (another average but really fun, movie also with vampires, werewolf and even, frankenstein) and the rest of the Underworld series -Underworld, Underworld: Evolution.

Through the Week & Insight to "All 'Bout Films" in the future

Time flies.

Agree. Took me 5 minutes to come out with a title for this post. Yeah, time flies. Really fast.

1 Week had passed and, yay! my blog is officially 1 week old since its rebirth.

Now, before time flies again, let's get back to topic.

Through the week
For my fellow new readers, to make things easier: My 1st post of All 'Bout Films, Introduction for what's my blog mainly about.

Here's a link to this post's little brother, Through the Days, Feedback and Personal-Film Review written on the 3rd day since i started. Interesting stuff, to let you know a little about my blog's tiny-history and yeah, don't miss the personal-film review section, I really think you will like it! Already being demanded on that, with 3 of them coming up! Good stuff, mate.

You can scroll down to below this post, to look for more articles to read, and all the articles are All 'Bout Films!
Now a look into the past: 1 Week had passed. 9 posts. That's 1.3 posts/day. 3 sub-columns. That's not all, more will come. Stay tune.

Since "Through the Days, Feedback and Personal-Film Review", had added "Learn More 'Bout Films" column, making my site more user-friendly. Layout, themes and motives = no changes.

Insight to the Future
Thats my 1-week story since i started, and i now will share what's my thoughts on the future of this blog.

My mission: is making my blog the most informative and detailed, film blog available in the internet. I strive to make it as user-friendly as possible, with great tonnes of informations with just simple clicks; while being easy to navigate around. No fuzz for anyone who want to get what they need from this blog.

So, yes, i will mention this again: i really appreciate feedbacks and suggestions, please do give them! I'll be happy to improve my blog as much as i could to achieve this mission. I need just a little contribution from you to tell me, as what a reader, really wants, and will make a huge difference. Again, i thank you those who had already done so.

Here, i'm sharing my insights, and have a look on how "All 'Bout Films" would looks like in the future and also how i can reach my target above. Read them:
A 'Did you know?' column
(might change the name, if i can think of something better) which tells the readers short-informative, simple-to-read information. It will just be at most - 5 sentences.

Here's a preview of my 1st 'did you know' column :
'Do you know? that Godfather and Lords of the Ring are the only trilogies with each of its series getting nominated for Oscar Best Picture. The Godfather Trilogy won 2 out of it while the LotR series only won one. '
Yes, another upcoming theme which i will add. I think this will be something readers are looking for. Simple yet effective.

Personal-Film Review(PFR)
Still on - as ever! Want one? Just drop a comment here or email me to lesliesks@gmail.com ! I already have 3 PFR coming up, and i'm expecting more!

More News, Trailers, Reviews and Previews
The bread-and-butter stuff that will fill up my blog. I make sure more will be filled up in the days & weeks to come and it will be balance out. Not too many trailers and lack of news or something.

The reason there's nothing much of this stuff for the 1st week of this blog as I admit i'm having some difficulty writing at the moment. Well, it had been a while (2 years actually - tat's long!) since the last time i been writing on something. So, yeah, My English's a little rusty. Still, i'm trying my best, and with continuous writing on post like this; I will definitely catch up and able to improve my overall writing skill too.

Chatbox & Links
Yes. My fellow blogger & friends had been asking me about these two matters. And stop bugging me about it! So, here's my thoughts:

Let's talk about Chatbox, first. Hmm. I'm not entirely sure of including this yet. Agreed it a good communication tool with my fellows visitors, also agreed it makes things fun. But this is a professional blog. I don't want spammers to flood and ruin my site. Seriously, if anything, just drop a comment on the relating articles.

Links. To begin, If you think your visitors to your blog could need some information 'bout film, tell me about it. I really appreciate that if you would/already link me from your own blog, but i apologize i can't do so to yours, especially if your blog have nothing related, or to do with movies. I may appear selfish but like i said, what i'm doing is strictly professional. Here's my offer: if there anything i could do to help (promote or anything) your blog, i would gladly do so. Again, tell me about it.

Other Insights
Agreed to set myself to post an Original Content at least once a week, during every weekend. Reason: Keeping things fresh, making the blog a place where everyone can give their opinions.
Here's the 1st one i'd done last week, if you haven't read about it: Something 'Bout Tuesday

Will add polls once i have a frequent amount of visitors daily. Reason: Keep things interactive.

Must remind myself to add pictures, pictures, pictures! I keep forgetting about this. Reason: Don't want wall-of-texts over here.

Will design a super-cool and better, title to replace the one i have now. Thanks to http://www.hiaxsy.blogspot.com/ for inspiration. Also, I will keep improving the overall layout. Reason: Better first impression.

Besides improving the current content & layout of my blog, at the moment i'm getting my blog and promote it to several forums, linking to other film blogs to get more traffic to popularize it!

End of insights. I hope you now have a clearer view, on my vision of a better "All 'Bout Films" in the future. And its in my hands, and also your help, to do whatever we can to achieve that.

Thanks for the read. See you again tonight.

Slumdog goes Wonderdog on BAFTA Awards!

A catch-up on the 62nd BAFTA : (British's Academy of Film & Television Awards)

Oscar's favourite film "Slumdog Millionaire" leads the pack by winning an astonishing number of awards this glorious night. A total number of 7 awards, which are Best Picture, Cinematography, Director, Editting, Music, Adapted Screenplay Sound. Followed by another strong contender for the oscar, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons". who pick up only just 3 awards out of 11 nominations - Best Production Design, Hair & Make-up and Visual Effects.

While the story of a super-cute robot with its adventure, "Wall-E" won Best Animated Feature Film.

The Best Actor Award goes to Mickey Rourke, who plays a washed-up wrester in "The Wrestler", meanwhile Kate Winslet who starred in Titanic took home the Best Actress Award for her role in "The Reader".

End of my summary.
Well, if you interested of the full list of winners, here's the list: BAFTA 2009 Winners

Well, well. Great stuff there.

Slumdog Millionaire, which already a winner at the Golden Globe, and now this ceremony, is clearly set to have a bright future on winning more on the Academy Award, this coming 22th of February.

Wall-E. Well, I like Wall-E. The charm of its self-titled hero Wall-E is simply too irresistible. The greatest effort by Pixar Animation yet. It deserve the best animated film title.

As for the two major acting award-winners, Mickey Rourke, nothing much i can comment since i haven't watched "The Wrestler" yet, heard he did a solid performance there though. Kate Winslet, well, she's finally deserve all the major film awards she receiving lately since her last, on the film Sense and Sensibility, which is during 1995.

Congrats! fellow Winners.
Now, where's my calendar.. 22nd February. Circled. Note Written. Reminder : Oscar's Night. I'll be waiting.

Something 'Bout Tuesday

I'm writing this short post featuring on an interesting fact about going movies on tuesdays in Malaysia, and fellow countrymen, you're in luck to be reading this right now!

Well, there's really "Something 'Bout Tuesday" in Malaysia Cinemas. Why, tuesday?

So to begin, here are some facts about Malaysia's Cineplexes : Every morning, Tuesday and Wednesday, the cinema offers 'special ticket prices'. This means movie tickets will be bought at a cheaper price. You do not need to ask to receive the discount. It is automatic.

Now, here's the problem:
Auto-reduction of price happens to Wednesday and every Morning EXCEPT on Tuesdays.

Tuesday is 'Tuesday Ladies' special, it is the day where Ladies' suppose to get RM3-4 discount. But no, there is no auto-reduction of price. No respect for the ladies huh? Also, based on my personal experience, local cinema cashiers had never ask 'how many ladies you have?' Come on, better service please. So, you personally have to manually, tell the cashier how many ladies you have to receive the discount.

So yeah, because of this interesting fact, i personally know of many Malaysians not knowing that Tuesday is 'Tuesday Ladies' special'. So, next time when you are going for a show with ur gals in Malaysia on Tuesday, do what I said above and enjoy the otherwise wasted, cheaper rate for your show! It's Ladies' Night!

I am glad to share out my knowledge on this matter, and if you do have some interesting facts/matters similiar to what i have written, please be willing to share them to me and the other readers. Sharing is Caring. Thank you.

Dragonball Evolution Newest Trailer!

Sorry guys. I was suppose to post this article yesterday, but couldn't it was a real busy day yesterday. Anyways, still here it is as i promised! Check out the sights of our favourite Dragon Ball characters! Enjoy!

I like the way this movie is going for fresh, new changes instead of a 100% head-to-head, toe-to-toe adaptation to the original. If such would happens, i think it will be disastrous. Why? Because IT will be really difficult to re-capture the spirit of the original, unless your name is Peter Jackson, and the movie guaranteed to looks ridiculous on the big screen.

Superb fight scenes, fantastic visuals, over-the-top special effects. Sure looks like one promising action flick, im pretty sure it won't disappoint!

Next week gonna be a week of more previews, and news, instead of trailers. Still, if there is a trailer which totally rock, i will be glad to share it! Be right back soon enough, people, i have some interesting original content to share tonight, until then!

G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Trailer!

After watching the 30 secs trailer, my opinions are: Looks 'Wanted'-ish, which is a film i didn't really enjoy, the action-scene are too far-fetched, curving bullets, defying physics? Not my cup of tea.

Anyways, here's the trailer:

Well, yeah, it shows some pretty awesome action sequence, especially the beginning, a collapsing Eiffel Tower! Too wicked. This sure looks like a great popcorn movie, just hope it stay clear away from cheesiness and keep the action scene realistic! (refering to Wanted)

My dear readers, enjoyed the Transformer 2 and G.I. Joe trailer? Well, at least i do. Tomorrow i will post the final trailer of this week. Stay tune, and watch this column for the Dragonball: Evolution teaser trailer. Yes, Dragonball. Not a cartoon. A movie!

Through the Days, Feedbacks and Personal-film Review

hey there!

5th post of the blog. Pheewww! Can't believe i have come this far. And i hope you guys have enjoyed the contents so far, but this is not my best yet. I promise to continue to improve my writing, and make the entire blog more informative, more fun, more interactive, yet still keeping it professional.

Through the Days
Since i started out, i have been constantly changing my layout. Started with a blue background layout, before turning it into black. From yellowish headings to blue & orange-gold headings. Blue & Orange are color contrast, which i really like at the moment. Now my blog sure looks more professional & classy than ever before.

Content-wise, my rule of thumb for this blog is at least write a post/content per day. Done one review, one trailer-preview (thanks FR, for teaching me how to do so), and one Fun-Trivia, there is more to come!

Added the 'top 5 box-office' as im looking through the gadgets. Added welcome message. Today, just added 'Bout my Latest > Film Related Stuff! which I think able to tell more about myself through films. Also, All 'Bout Films Categorized! - which makes my blog more user-friendly, which is cool.

Themes/ Motives throughout the blog:
The word 'Bout instead of "About" on subheadings/ headings/ even words = It will be a consistent theme and give this blog a unique touch.

'Xtras info [Appears at end of posts/articles. Strictly in red color.] yeah, which i thought of it on my 2nd day of blogging. This is where i add facts and links giving informations related to the post. Glad to keep everyone reading the articles as informative as possible.

Now, lets move on.

Okay the REAL reason im writing this post is for this:

Feedbacks & Suggestions
I'm willing enough to hear suggestions and feedbacks. Either just put a comment here, or even email me personally = lesliesks@gmail.com. Think i need to do more contents? Or need to improve on my blog layout? Just anything. I be happy to keep my readers satisfied! Come on, that's what blog's all 'bout.

2nd reason i'm writing this:
Few minutes ago, i just thought of a great idea. I'm thinking, how about a personal film review? Just tell me of a film which i hadn't review or heck, even watch, i can personally watch it and give my opinions. (if i HAVE the time though, i don't wan a hundred emails coming to me and finding myself trapped watching films the whole time)

So, yeah. Personal-film review. I'm serious about it. Let me know if you want one and as long i have the time, i will do it.

Thanks for reading this. Hope to see you soon. Back to work.
